You would be surprised how difficult it can be to get concrete where you need it. It is a factor we have to take into account with every single job we take on. For example, someone calls and inquires about a slab they’d like pouring for the ground floor of a house, but the driveway is at a 20-degree gradient! It does not mean it won’t get done – it always does – but it does mean it will take longer.
An excellent solution to difficult-to-access sites is the beloved concrete pump: a second wagon with a very large pump and lots of pipes that can be attached to whatever desired length to reach the area that needs concrete. This speeds up any job, and is usually the standard for any job over 12 cubic-metres.
However, they come at a price. A literal price, that is, of around £600-700 per job. This often discourages a lot of homeowners from spending the extra cash on a pump, and requesting it to be barrowed, instead. This is very much understandable, as you can imagine renovating your home is expensive! But, in truth, a concrete pump is often a faster, more precise and cleaner way of concreting.
In terms of commercial jobs, concrete pumping is often more common. The budget is bigger, and more often than not, the whole job is larger-scale. Sometimes a standard concrete pump and pipes is not enough, which is where the boom pump comes in. Typically around 24m in length once extended, boom pumps loom over the site and pump concrete overhead through hard pipelines attached to the boom arm, and concrete can be poured directly down into the footing. Extremely convenient!
To conclude, if you can justify the price of a concrete pump they are fantastic pieces of kit. They will make any tricky concrete job a lot easier for everyone involved, and here at Rhino Concrete, we are all about making your life easier with any concrete job.
