When ordering concrete, it’s important to know exactly what grade you need. By grade, we mean how cement-heavy the mix is.

It’s important when ordering concrete to be clued in on what grades are typically used for which jobs.

Below is a guide highlighting the different uses for grades of concrete.

C10-15

Or GEN 1: A wetter, less stone & sand-heavy mix used by both homeowners and contractors. Typical uses for GEN 1/C10-15 are:

  • Drainage works
  • Trench filling
  • Floor blinding
  • Garden walls
  • Foundations for steps

C15-20

A mix best suited for flooring with no cages or metal embedded. Typical uses for C15-20 are:

  • Domestic projects
  • Paving
  • Slab pours (garage/shed foundations)
  • Bare flooring finishing
  • Small walls

C20-25

This is the mix you would be best using for commercial/lightweight domestic construction, or for projects where there is unstable ground. C20-25 can be used for:

  • Paving
  • Almost all slab applications (garages, small houses & extensions)

C25-30

This grade of concrete is very versatile and has a range of uses, which are:

  • Trench filling
  • Patio bases
  • Groundworks
  • Flooring
  • Foundations

C28-35

Used mostly in a commercial capacity, C28-35 is used best for:

  • External slabs
  • Driveways (load-bearing)
  • Pavements
  • Home bases
  • House extensions
  • Paving

C32-40

This the strongest grade of concrete we offer,  suitable for the following applications:

  • Structural beams
  • Agricultural storage areas/Barn floorings
  • External slabs
  • Outdoor paving
  • Roadworks
  • Septic tank foundations
  • Commercial building reinforced bases
  • HGV hard-standing/parking
